1968 Dodge Dart GT convertible
  • Bright Blue Metallic over Black
  • Upgraded to GTS specifications
  • STRONG 340 engine, 4 speed manual
  • Original Texas car, clean body
  • Ready to cruise, and look good doing it!

Darts are cool cars.  There, we said it.  Chevy II fans aren't the only ones with access to boxy, lightweight performance cars--a Mopar A Body with a 340 is a very formidable weapon right out of the box!  This car might have been born with a 318, but it's a full GTS 340 4 speed conversion, and it's done right.

Originally a clean Texas GT with a 318 and a column-shifted automatic, this car was transformed with horsepower, a stick shift and bright B5 blue paint. The sheet metal on the car is all original, including the floors and trunk, and is in excellent condition following a cosmetic restoration. Panel gaps and alignment are factory or better, and the paint is glossy and bright with a deep shine thanks to the base/clear system used. The builder was shooting for a great driver that could be shown and enjoyed, and he really nailed it!

Under the hood you'll find a true star:  The 340ci Chrysler small block.  The 340 was unique in Detroit as there weren't any low performance models in that displacement.  You could get an LT-1 350, or a BOSS 302, but you could get 2bbl versions as well.  Every 340 came with good heads, at least a 4bbl carb and a decent cam.  It automatically said performance, and this car's engine is no exception.  It's super smooth and very docile, but there's a good pop in the midrange right through redline.  In a convertible, it's an even more visceral experience!  The original intake manifold was aluminum and made by Edelbrock, but technology has gotten better--there's an Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap in place and it's a natural for a 340.  Electronic ignition and a new Edelbrock carb ensure quick starts and hassle-free motoring.

Chrome and other bright pieces were redone during the restoration, while much of the other trim was properly restored, including the beautiful grille and headlight surrounds, the GTS-specific hood inserts and the tail panel. There's a brand new vinyl top, professionally installed this summer, along with new chrome latches.  The rest of the glass, including the windshield that was replaced in 2007, is in outstanding condition with no damage.

The transmission is a 4-speed manual in place of the original Torqueflite automatic, and that’s exactly what you want in a hot cruiser like this one. It’s topped by a Hurst shifter, and its placement is nothing short of perfect.  The length of the stick, where it pops through the floor--few vehicles can match it.  It's another 1969 piece, and, like the engine, came from a St Louis built car just like the body.  Underneath, bushings and other hardware were replaced, and the steering linkage is new. The factory undercoating was touched up and ready to go for another 40 years. The deep rumble is courtesy of a TTI 2.25" true dual exhaust system with Dynomax mufflers. The 8.75-inch rear has been stuffed full of fresh 3.73 gears for potent acceleration in this lightweight package.  There's a Sure-Grip in the housing out back and a sway bar up front, both items you'll find on the majority of GTS's.

The black vinyl interior is as fresh as the rest of the car, and shows very little wear. The seats and carpet are recent, and they're clean and soft.  A beautiful woodgrain steering wheel complements the Hurst stick, and power steering makes cruising effortless.

Out back, you’ll note the original floors in the photos of the trunk, painted the same shiny blue as the exterior.  The spare is where it should be, as is the restored jack.  A new mat keeps it tidy.

Documentation includes an original owner’s manual and several decades’ worth of maintenance receipts on the car dating back into the 1970s, as well as a detailed ledger that details the date, mileage, and type of every service the car has had since that time. Receipts for most of the restoration work, dated from 2007, are also included.

If you’re looking for a great high-performance cruiser, take a look at this GTS ragtop tribute. It has all the right ingredients: V8 engine, manual transmission, and a folding top!

At the Motor Car Group, we're enthusiasts first. We want you to enjoy your new car from the minute it's delivered and the trailer door drops. Before a car leaves our shop, it's gone through comprehensively, both visually and mechanically. We do more than just kick the tires, though: We fill your tires with nitrogen, road test (if the weather permits us here in Cleveland!) and clean it inside and out. We buff the paint using a three-step process immediately before it's taken away so that it gleams when it arrives. Every car we sell, from Sunday drivers through the rarest exotics, is meant to be driven--get out there!

If you have any questions before, during or after the sale, do not hesitate to contact us. It's what we're here for! Call us at (440) 914-0000, write us at sales@motorcargroup.com or stop by and see the new shop at 6441 Davis Industrial Parkway, Solon OH 44139. We're 26 miles from Cleveland Hopkins Airport and we can pick you up when you come to inspect or purchase your car. We welcome any prospective buyers, their buyer's agents or inspectors from Monday through Friday during business hours, as well as evenings and weekends by appointment. We're car people who love what we do, and you'll feel it from the first time you contact us. Give the R&H crew the opportunity to serve you: Our passion and attention to detail set us apart!
