Certain cars can be called “ahead of their time.” Usually, that's a statement that's either issued in hindsight or to explain a model's failure, such as the Jeep Grand Wagoneer or the Tucker, respectively. The car here, though, earned the title before it was even offered up for sale. With just 38,000 Southern-state, sunny day miles, this Spa Yellow NSX is a now and forever collectable. The space needed to cover the NSX's groundbreaking achievements far exceeds the scope of this ad, but here are some highlights: Aluminum frame, body and engine, variable valve timing, throttle-by-wire, four channel ABS brakes, traction control, aluminum suspensions, titanium connecting rods and more. While most of these pieces are either available or standard on new cars, when the NSX was released this was the stuff of motorsports dreams. That's the true measure of this car's greatness: It made its benchmark at launch time the Ferrari 348, a car which looked and behaved like a hobby horse in comparison. It made sports car manufacturers drastically update their offerings, leading to the embarrassment of riches we now have before us. Honda also wanted the NSX to be everyday practical, and as reliable as an Accord. With its extremely capable yet compliant chassis, flexible engine and room in the trunk for a week's worth of groceries you could use the NSX 365 days a year in a way that its supercar contemporaries would simply fail trying. The 2001 model year, the year this car rolled off the assembly line, was one of the lowest production years in the NSX's history. A grand total of 166 of them sold in the US, and this is one of only 37 in Spa Yellow. Need a reference point? Ferrari built more than 3,000 360's that year. How's that for making one of the most exclusive cars in the world look common? For condition, this NSX was extremely well treated, as its 38,000 mile odometer and clean Carfax would suggest. Minor wrinkling on the leather seats, bright paint, clean glass and excellent mechanicals are all here. The only real addition to the car from stock is the modern set of iForged Racing wheels wearing 225/35/18 front and 275/30/19 Toyo Proxes T1R tires. They're lightweight and look right at home on the car. For
a car designed in the 1980's the styling still looks modern, and
it'll remain timeless. The running gear certainly is, and while the
13.3 times in the quarter mile aren't world-beating anymore the car's
still very very quick. Rare, very expensive from new, in short
supply and in good condition this NSX belongs in any proper supercar
collection.
